Central Area Masterplan Consultation
In the course of its evolution, the Masterplan has been informed by and benefited from a series of consultation events and procedures, including:
- One-to-one consultations with statutory bodies, stakeholder groups, companies and individuals
- A Stakeholder Forum Event - September 2006; Presentations and break-out groups attended by 62 local representatives
- A Walking Audit Event- October 2006; Facilitated group tours of the town centre attended by 55 local residents
- A Deckchair Event in the High Street – November 2006; the High Street engagement with residents and visitors regarding views and hopes for the town centre. Over 300 people sent RSL ‘a post-card from Southend’
- An Exhibition Event - May/June 2007; Emerging preferred options for the town centre exhibited for public consultation in venues in the town centre, Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness
All visitors to the exhibitions were encouraged to complete a response to the proposals and also to comment. Responses were managed on the basis of a series of questions to which respondents were asked to indicate agreement on a scale of 1 – 5. Average scores were generally very positive, with a significant number of respondents being in favour of change. The exhibitions were attended by approximately 2,500 people, and responses numbered more than 350. In response to the consultation, the development of the Masterplan was subsequently reviewed and amended.
