The University of Essex, South Essex College and Southend Borough Council, are working in partnership to take forward the redevelopment of the site currently occupied by the Farringdon Road car parks to further expand and develop the education and cultural hub in Southend.

Subject to planning, funding and the provision of replacement car parking, the partners intend to provide:-

    • circa 11,000 m² of new further education space for South Essex College to meet increased demand
    • circa 7,000 m² for the University, to include additional business incubation space to complement its existing Business Hub and educational space to enable the University to expand its offer in Southend
    • circa 10,000 m² of new library space; this will enable the relocation of Southend Central Library and new University library facilities.

These developments will be complemented by an improved public realm and are anticipated to be completed by the end of 2015.
